3.5 M€ FUNDING OF ENERGY UPGRADING WORKS ON ‘ANYM’ BULDING OF NTUA

FUNDING OF ENERGY UPGRADING OF ‘ANYM’ BULDING OF NTUA

As a result of coordinated efforts, NTUA has successfully completed the integration of the Act “Energy Saving Interventions and pilot application of Renewable Energy Sources utilization in the building of Aerodynamics, Shipbuilding and Hydraulic Turbomachines (ANYM) of the National Technical University of Athens” in the context of the Priority Axis “PROMOTING STRATEGIES FOR LOW CARBON EMISSIONS FOCUSING ON URBAN AREAS (ERDF)” of the Operational Program “Transport Infrastructure, Environment andSustainable Development”.

The ANYM building is situated in the main Campus of the National Technical University of Athens in Zografou and has a total surface area of 7.913 m2. The construction of the building begun in 1974 and was completed in 1980. According to the energy inspection performed, the building was classified in the energy category H. The proposal that concerned the energy upgrading of the building focused on the implementation of the following interventions:

  1. Shell interventions with thermal insulation of the building shell (external walls and roof) and replacement of windows frames with new, certified and of high energy efficiency.
  2. Upgrading of the artificial lighting system through the replacement of the lighting equipment using fluorescent lamps with LED technology equipment.
  3. Incorporation of Renewable Energy Sources (RES)
    • With the installation of a hybrid demonstration cooling-heating system with ice storage, heat pump, adsorption chiller and solar thermal field.
    • With the installation of a cooling-heating system with utilisation of shallow, closed-loop geothermal energy
    • With the installation of a photovoltaic system on the roof
  4. Installation of ventilation system with heat recovery and procuremen to fVRF units
  5. Sustainable mobility promotion activities
    • Replacement of the existing conventional transport vehicle with an equivalent electric one.
    • Installation of an electric charging station.

The total interventions will lead to the energy upgrading of the building from Category H to Category A.

The activity has a total budget of 3.500.000,00 and is co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
